THE LIGHT

The Gift of Jesus - ADVENT Week 3

noun: something that makes vision possible; illumination, radiance

“I am the world’s light. No one who follows me stumbles around in the darkness. I provide plenty of light to live in.” John 8:12

God sees: His stumbling, lost kids. Afraid of the dark. Trying to figure out the next step when we can’t see what it is. Bumping up against things we didn’t anticipate, and feeling like just giving up.

God knows: The paths that we are walking and our darkest places. He is more familiar with them than we could possibly know. He takes our hand and leads us when we cannot see–reassuring us all the way through.

God gives:

In the Old Testament, God created light, and separated it from the darkness. Out of the chaos and emptiness, God gave us something vital: LIGHT to reveal truth, illuminate beauty, and sustain life. LIGHT to warm us and grow us and lead us.

In the New Testament, Jesus lit up the world with a blaze of newness. He opened the eyes of those who could not see, and he broke down the walls that kept hearts and souls locked up in dark places. He gave us his promise that if we will follow him, his light will always overcome the darkness in our world.

And he still shines this light of faithfulness and truth for us and on us today.

“The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light. For those who lived in a land of deep shadows–light! Sunbursts of light! Isaiah 9:2

Thank you, God, for your sunbursts of light! Please help us to step confidently out of the shadows into the brightness and warmth of Your love.

Thank you for giving us Jesus.
