God SWEEPS away our sins

Every time I sweep my kitchen floor, I wonder the same thing: didn’t I just do this? How can there be this much dust/dirt/hair again already? The same thing happens at school. We sweep in the morning, and by afternoon we can fill another dustpan with crumbs, scraps, dried mud from the playground, used band-aids, and pieces of crayon. It’s disgusting.

And so is sin. God hates it. We hate it. But it keeps gathering in the corners of our minds and in the secret places of our hearts. It is hard to keep up with the messes we make.

God’s gift of Peace on Earth means so much more than just the absence of strife or conflict.

God’s gift of Peace on Earth means that he has a plan to bring everything and everyone into wholeness. To usher us first into a perfect union with him, but also to bring healing to our broken world. Our relationships, our roles, our struggles, our victories, our pain, our gifts, our disappointments, our joys–all essential parts that God is tying together.

JESUS is our ETERNAL FATHER

God knew.

He knew that in all of the change, the oppression, and the frustration, his people just wanted to be protected. They wanted to be cared for, provided for, safe.

He knew that they were asking for a king who would liberate them and restore their hope.

And he knew that what they were really longing for was more of him.

And God still knows that about us.

He knows that we all need a good father who will wrap his arms of love and patience and strength around us. A father who will defend us and feed us and give us what we need. A father who will teach us how to love and serve and grow by living it out for us.

Here in this verse, God declares that he is extending to his son Jesus all ability, all influence, all victory, and all power.
