God Goes Ahead of Us

“…For the Lord your God will personally go ahead of you. He will neither fail you nor abandon you.”  Deuteronomy 31:6 NLT

We went to the emergency room a few nights ago with our very sick son. It’s probably as close to hell as I’ve been in a while. Uncomfortable chairs, filthy bathrooms, agonizing waits, people in rough shape, and overwhelming fear. Everywhere I looked I saw worried faces and hurting bodies.

It was almost unbearable. My heart was breaking for my son and for everyone else that was in such desperate need of relief.

But it wasn’t hell. God was there. He had personally gone ahead of us to that emergency room. As we prayed for good doctors, for answers, for peace…He was already working on it. And He did not fail us. He did bring a good doctor, some answers, His peace. And He stayed with us–faithful and present and comforting in the awfulness.

The emergency room, the meeting, the courtroom, the doctor’s office, the family gathering, the stressful workplace, the empty house…to all of the painful places we have to go, God goes with us. He goes ahead of us. And then He stays right there beside us through it all.

Hold on to Jesus ~ Sometimes the only thing you can do is pray. The only thing. You can invite Jesus to go ahead of you, to bring His will and His good. Count on Him to faithfully walk (or sit) with you through the most painful, stressful times. He will be right there.
