EVERYTHING

“For everything, absolutely everything, above and below, visible and invisible, rank after rank after rank of angels–everything got started in him and finds its purpose in him. He was there before any of it came into existence and holds it all together right up to this moment.” Colossians 1:16-17

Anxious people, I’m right there with you. It’s tough enough to ride out the waves of anxiety during normal life, but lately we have been experiencing a whole new level of fear and panic. A deathly virus has taken hold of almost every country on this earth, and we are trying to survive. A microscopic, mostly invisible enemy has us brought us to our knees. We are scared.

And no one knows exactly what to do.

Leaders, health officials, researchers, and authorities are trying their best, but the information keeps updating, the recommendations keep changing. People keep getting sick and everything is closed. And if the hoarding and stealing and fighting is any indication, people are overwhelmed and terrified–trying desperately to control what they can’t.

Who can we turn to for help?

Who is ultimately in control?

He’s got the whole world in His hands, He’s got the whole wide world in His hands, He’s got the whole world in His hands, He’s got the whole world in His hands.

Remember that little song? We would sing this in Sunday School, and I would picture God’s big, strong hands cradling the huge green and blue ball we call home.

Maybe it is just that simple.

He thought of us. He created us. Every single thing and every living being on this earth was designed by him with a purpose. He is not going to let us spin into oblivion nor will he turn his back on us; because we are his holy creation, his precious children. We matter immensely to this God who made us and he is committed to us forever.

He really does hold our whole world.

He really does hold our lives, our families, and our futures.

He really does hold our bodies, our hearts, our minds, and our souls.

And in times of great fear and struggle and loss, we can trust that he holds us even closer.

Stand firm:

No matter what we see or feel or experience, we can absolutely trust that the merciful and mighty creator of this world is still in charge. Let him hold you in his safe, loving, and masterful hands. He is more than able to hold everything all together.
