ENOUGH
adj: as much as necessary, plenty, sufficient
"My grace is enough; it's all you need. My strength comes into its own in your weakness." 2 Corinthians 12:9
If I made a list of everything I think I need right now, it would be awfully long. I've got a never-ending list of things I want too. Keeps me pretty busy, all this worrying about things I don't have.
I tend to try to meet these needs in lots of different ways. Sometimes I turn to good things and helpful people. But sometimes I turn to not-so-good things, and to people who might just tell me what I want to hear-instead of what is true and right. It's hard. And confusing. Until I remember God wants me to bring every need to Him.
So I do. I talk to Him about what I need, what I want, and what I'm worried about. Sometimes I ask for direction, clarity, and help with a difficult situation. Often, I ask him to keep my family safe and healthy and happy. I ask for energy and patience and more of his presence in my life. And quite a bit of the time, I ask him to take away my weaknesses.
But then I read more of Paul's message in 2 Corinthians 9-10:
Once I heard that, I was glad to let it happen. I quit focusing on the handicap and began appreciating the gift. It was a case of Christ's strength moving in on my weakness. Now I take limitations in stride, and with good cheer, these limitations that cut me down to size–abuse, accidents, opposition, bad breaks. I just let Christ take over! And so the weaker I get, the stronger I become.
So maybe my list needs to be different. Maybe I should make a list of things I am thankful for, including the hard things, even if I don't understand why they are happening. Being grateful can change us from needy to content, anxious to calm, weak to strong.
God knows exactly what we need. He sees our gaping holes, and he pours his grace into them–filling them completely. Giving us peace, giving us courage, giving us his kind of strength.
That's his grace. It is enough, “equal to what is needed.” Just exactly the right amount at the right time.
Enough for now.
Enough for this struggle.
Enough for you.
Invite Him In
Bring you list of needs to Jesus. Thank him for his grace that pours into us. Jesus does His best work when we let his strength "move in on" our weakness. When we allow him to "take over.” Let him show you what his grace can do when you let him be everything you need.
