AMAZING COUNSELOR
amazing (adj): causing a strong emotional reaction because of unexpectedness
counselor (noun): someone who gives advice or guidance; therapist, advocate
“For a child has been born–for us! The gift of a son–for us! He’ll take over the running of the world. His names will be: Amazing Counselor, Strong God, Eternal Father, Prince of Wholeness. His ruling authority will grow, and there’ll be no limits to the wholeness he brings…” Isaiah 9:6,7
Jesus. Our amazing counselor.
God knew that we would all need one.
He knew that there would be times of confusion and crisis in our lives.
He knew that we would need advice, direction, and reality checks often.
He knew that we would feel defenseless and lost sometimes, desperate for someone to simply walk beside us.
And he knew that we would need someone to pour out our hearts to, someone who listens with love instead of judgment.
So he gave us his only son. What an amazing gift.
Amazing because he is with us every moment of our lives.
Amazing because he already knows every detail, every single inch of us inside and out.
Amazing because he has all kinds of good to bring, even in the loss and the pain.
Amazing because he loves us fiercely yet tenderly, meeting our needs in a way that no person possibly can.
Because God gave us Jesus on that first Christmas morning, we have the most wise and brilliant counselor to guide us, advise us, and help us. We have the most tenacious counselor to defend us and advocate for us. And we have the most compassionate counselor who has lived the life we live. He understands our human struggles, our raw emotions, and the limits we face; yet he absolutely believes in us. He wants more for us, and he is willing to help us do the work.
This Christmas, I want to let Him.
Invite Him in: Let Jesus be your amazing counselor today. Whatever you need, he knows. Whatever you long for, he knows. Whatever you need to get off your chest, he knows. Whatever you are worried about, he knows. And he is looking at you with his eyes of love, ready to help.
