GOD WILL BRING GOOD
And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28 NIV
PROMISE KEYWORD
good (adj): desirable, beneficial, worthy, beautiful
I am a “glass-half-full” kind of person. I get teased sometimes for being annoyingly optimistic. I can’t help it. I love to look for the good.
But it doesn’t always help. Living in this broken world means that we are going to experience some things that are really hard for our hearts to take. I think about my friend from work who is undergoing aggressive treatment for breast cancer as she struggles to have energy for her three young boys. I worry about another friend who is helping her dear mom as dementia robs her of her independence, strength, and peace. And I hurt for my dad who sits alone in his empty house counting the days (years) he has made it through without my mom. The glass looks a lot more like empty to me here. Where is the good?
We need to know that this life is not all there is.
We need to know that every hard thing will be redeemed.
And we need to know that Someone good is working in it all.
And we find all of this to be true in our relationship with Jesus.
It’s about so much more than positive thinking or looking on the bright side. It’s about putting our faith in him.
Faith in Jesus whose promise of life forever with him is real.
Faith in Jesus who can redeem every single thing we bring to him.
Faith in Jesus who hears our prayers and carefully, compassionately gives us what we need at exactly the right time.
Faith in Jesus who knows and loves us deeply and comes even closer in our hardest moments.
And faith in Jesus who sits at the right hand of God working ALL things together for good.
He promises us that our awful and heartbreaking things can be redeemed. We can truly depend on him to bring new life, new understanding, new relationships, new breakthroughs, and a new closeness to him. Even if we don’t see it until we get to Heaven, we can hold on to the truth that he is constantly, lovingly, incomprehensibly working all things together for good.
Dear Jesus, you are in control and you are good. Your ways and your thoughts are so much higher than mine. Thank you that even when I can’t see it, I can rest in the truth that you love me completely and you are working all things together for good. Amen.
