SET

verb: to place with care or deliberate purpose, intentionally designed

"He thought of everything, provided for everything we could possibly need, letting us in on the plans He took such delight in making. He set it all out before us in Christ..."

Ephesians 1:8,9 MSG

Ready?  SET…Go!

My brain does this in the mornings. I teach Physical Education to kids in Kindergarten through 6th grade, and I love it.  But there is so much to do before they come to the gym.  Like all teachers, I spend quite a bit of time preparing for each class. Planning the activities, getting the equipment out, and setting it where it needs to be.  I think about how to keep them safe, what they need to learn, and what they love to do.

Each class, each student—so important to me.

When I get home, we make dinner.  I do the “ready, set, go” thing all over again.   Thinking about what everybody needs for healthy bodies, balancing the meal, taking care of allergies, special diets, likes, and dislikes.

And then I set the table—condiments, salad dressing, a basket of bread or a bowl of rice, silverware, glasses, serving spoons…and a place set for each person in our family.

(Or, more often than not, we just grab paper plates and eat on the couch.  Smile.)

But it is so fun to do this for holidays, for birthdays, for company. To set an extra-special table with thoughtful details, nice dishes, and a delicious meal.  Place cards, tablecloths, flowers, plenty of food, and lots of love to go around.

And Jesus? He does this for us...

With care, with deliberate purpose, with beautiful intention, Jesus sets before us the most inviting table we could ever imagine.  He thinks of me, of you as He designs the place settings and plans the meal.  He knows what we need.  He knows what we hope for.  He knows what fills our hearts and satisfies our souls.

What holiday is this?  Whose birthday? What special occasion?

It is simply this--we are invited to dinner.  An ordinary day turns into a celebration when we accept His invitation.  We are His company, His honored guests, His precious kids. He knows that we are weary and hungry for something more. And He can't wait for us to experience all that He has set before us. He wants to treat us to His very best--no expense spared, no detail overlooked. Exactly what we need and more than we could ever hope for will be on that table.

Love?  Bowls upon bowls full--plenty to go around.

Peace?  Quench your thirst with His unlimited supply.

Grace?  It's the main course.  Everybody gets a huge helping.

Hope and Joy?  Baskets overflowing.  You can have as much as you want.

Wonder?  Wait until you taste dessert!  He has such amazing adventures in store for you!

"Come to the table

Come join the sinners who have been redeemed

Take your place beside the Savior

Sit down and be set free..."

Let's invite Him in:  Just for a moment, sit with Jesus.  Allow Him to give you everything you need and surprise you with more.  Take in the food, the drink, the laughter, and the love at His table of grace. Come and relax in the special place He's saving just for you...it's all set.
