SHOWER

noun:  an enclosure in which a person stands under a spray of water to wash

verb:  to give a great number of things to someone; to heap or lavish

“Now God has us where he wants us, with all the time in this world and the next to shower grace and kindness upon us in Christ Jesus.”  Ephesians 2:7

Sometimes we just need a shower.

It feels amazing to get in dirty and come out clean. To get in sweaty and sticky, and come out refreshed, cool. To get in freezing and come out warm and relaxed. To get in sleepy and come out wide-awake.

A shower can turn our day around.

Or, we can be “showered” with gifts by people who love us…

Bridal showers or baby showers are given to celebrate these special life events. Friends and families gather to generously “shower” presents, attention, advice, and good wishes on the bride and groom or the parents-to-be.

(I always thought that “shower” was such a funny word for a party.  Luckily for all of us, the noun-definition and the verb-definition of shower mean really different things). J

I like the water kind, and I like the party kind.  When I think of Jesus “showering” us with grace and kindness, they both work.

The water kind of shower?  We choose to get in. There Jesus can pour over us streams of grace and kindness by cleansing our hearts, making us new, refreshing us, energizing us to live the life He call us to.  We put ourselves into a place where he can turn our hearts, our days, our lives around.

The party kind of shower?  God plans these for us!  He sees us in a place of need or entering into something new. He lavishes upon us his attention and encouragement and strength.  He gives us meaningful relationships, creative ideas, real peace, incredible beauty, and enduring hope.  He is all about celebrating us and supporting us, whatever stage of life we are in.

Let’s invite Him in:  You can ask Jesus for whatever kind of shower you need today.  Maybe you need to put yourself in a place where he can cleanse your heart and renew your spirit.  Maybe you need to warm up, cool off, wake up, or be refreshed.  Maybe you are just feeling like you want to be taken care of–needing some attention, advice, support, and love. Let him pour down upon you his gifts of grace and kindness.  He’s got the perfect kind of shower for you.
