adj: greater in amount, number, or size; extra or additional
“But now that you’ve found you don’t have to listen to sin tell you what to do, and have discovered the delight of listening to God telling you, what a surprise! A whole, healed, put-together life right now, with more and more of life on the way!” Romans 6:22 MSG
My friend’s sweet baby boy just learned the sign for “more.” He puts his cute little fingers together for more bottle, more peaches, more cereal. It is melt-your-heart adorable. Pretty much makes me want to give him everything.
We all want more, don't we? More sleep, more money, more time, more recognition, more chocolate…
Maybe we were created with this strong desire for more so that we would keep searching until we find more of Jesus.
He so desires to give us more:
In Bible stories, Jesus often surprises people with more. Over and over, I am amazed by how completely He understands, how deeply He cares, how big He thinks. One of my favorites is the story of the Samaritan woman at the well in John chapter 4. Jesus surprises her completely by talking to her in the first place. Then He surprises her by knowing her whole story and offering her "living water". In that one unexpected conversation (as this woman is basically running errands), Jesus fills her heart and changes her life.
He loves us like that. He loves us like we love little Anthony asking for more water in his high chair. Jesus knows exactly what we need more of right at this moment, and He is pretty excited to give it to us.
“There are so many other things that Jesus did. If they were all written down, each of them, one by one, I can’t imagine a world big enough to hold such a library of books.” John 21:25 MSG
This is how John ends his gospel story. By telling us that there is so much we don’t know about Jesus yet. That there is so much more to find out about Him...
Let’s invite Him in: Ask Jesus for more of Him. He knows your story. He wants to give you the "whole, healed, put-together life" He has for you. Good gifts, meaningful relationships, surprises of love and peace and joy in an ordinary day. Instead of grasping and struggling, take a deep breath and open your hands to receive from Him. He will give you everything you need...and more!
